Bio-Environs provides expertise in wetland delineation and functional assessment, water quality assessment, and environmental and biological assessment of terrestrial and aquatic systems. Bio-Environs has extensive experience in wetland delineation in Colorado ranging from one-acre sites to much larger projects (2500 acres). The company, from the start, has conducted water quality assessments of stream, lake, and reservoir systems. This aspect of work extends to developing water resource management plans for the National Park Service. Bio-Environs also conducts present condition studies associated with lands granted for conservation easements.

Bio-Environs has completed numerous Present Condition Reports for individuals and land trusts. These inventories are the basis for developing conservation easements. These reports require a breath and depth of knowledge regarding terrestrial and aquatic biota, hydrologic resources and the geology of a specific area or property.
Bio-Environs has completed over 200 wetland delineations per Army Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation guidance for various entities including large airport and municipal expansions, county infrastructure improvements and many individual landowners. Most wetland delineations have occurred primarily in Gunnison, Hinsdale and Montrose counties, Colorado but have been conducted as far north as Meeker, CO extending down to Telluride, CO and east to Denver, CO. In many cases the delineations have required assistance with Land Planning, 404 permitting process and design of mitigation features. Our team works with businesses and organizations to develop and implement sustainable transportation solutions, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable mobility.
Bio-Environs completed several studies for the Upper Gunnison River Water Conservancy District. These studies required a working knowledge of the Upper Gunnison Basin, wetland creation design, the regulatory world regarding the Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act, and federal, state, and local permitting processes. Also, in the early 1990s, Bio-Environs contracted with the District to compile a bibliography of water quality studies completed in the Gunnison River Basin. Additionally, Cudlip conducted a water quality monitoring program in the East and Slate Rivers near the Town of Crested Butte.
Bio-Environs has completed several projects for Gunnison County including development of the environmental section of the county’s 1041 regulations, implementation of a water quality monitoring program in 1986 and 1987, and delineation of wetlands for bridge sites and the county airport. The airport project included development of plans for creation of 13 acres of wetlands and an environmental assessment of the area, which was disturbed. Bio-Environs continues to develop creation plans for wetlands on Gunnison County and City of Gunnison property.
Bio-Environs contracted with the Taylor River Ranch in Gunnison County, CO to conduct stream assessments on the Taylor River within the Taylor River Ranch. The assessments included investigations of Bio-criteria, substrate analysis, periphyton sampling, fish population sampling and rapid stream habitat assessment. The investigation was conducted for three separate years to provide baseline and monitoring data for managers. These Taylor River investigations included a study of potential entrainment of Mysis diluviana (Opossum shrimp) into the Taylor River from Taylor Park Dam. The Mysis study was also conducted to provide data that would provide information for managers and the property owner. The project involved several presentations with managers, stakeholders and the public to share the results and work with managers. Bio-Environs facilitated coordination of several agencies and stakeholders to complete the project.
